On May 9th Ireland’s second largest city, Cork hosted the growing alliance of European cities actively working to raise awareness for Heart Failure.  At a special event attended by Irish Sports Broadcaster, Michael Lyster was joined by the Mayor of Cork County, Cllr Declan Hurley, to add the voice of the south to Ireland’s commitment to the Acting on Heart Failure campaign.

Michael Lyster, who is living with the condition, gave a personal perspective of the impact of Heart Failure on daily life.   He highlighted the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms and being proactive for a timely diagnosis resulting in an improved prognosis. “If you intervene early enough,” Lyster said, “you can get it sorted out; it’s not a death sentence, but it will be if you don’t do anything about it.”  As a popular television host, Michael Lyster’s story will be heard by a larger audience increasing the impact of awareness efforts in Cork.  As important supporters of the campaign, Novartis International COO, Eamon O’Sullivan and Shane Relihan, MD of Novartis Ringaskiddy Ltd joined forces with Cllr Hurley and Michael Lyster to pledge the commitment of the third city in Ireland to this global campaign.  The event was showcased in National and Local media, helping to spread awareness of Heart Failure across Ireland.
