Health Walk & QUIZ

As part of our events to mark European Heart Failure Day, AVEC – Association Vie Et Coeur in partnership with APIC  – Appui, Prévention, Insuffisance Cardiaque the heart failure unit at University Hospital of Poitiers, organized a public health walk “My heart in Motion » The walk was held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at CREPS du Poitiers in Vouneuil-sous-Biard (86).

A magnificent setting, a resplendent sun, volunteers with wide smiles … all the elements came together to welcome the participants of this event in the best conditions possible.

And we were not disappointed, a very varied public who replied to our invitation, patients, of course, but also experienced hikers, occasional walkers, young, old …

The various activities proposed were much appreciated by the participants, including the introduction to Nordic Walking. The sport made many new recruits.

Similarly, the life saving gestures awareness workshop conducted by the local fire-fighters and paramedics – SDIS 86, the practical instructions on the use of an external defibrillator and the information sessions on how pacemakers and ICD function also proved highly successful.

The fun and educational QUIZ on heart failure and the benefits of the health related sports resulted in many discussions in the shade of the woods!

After the walk the quiz also led to discussions with the hosts of the various stalls (APIC / CHU, AVEC, Cœur et Santé, and the Associations for Adapted Physical Activity)

In terms of numbers, we recorded 148 participants for the health walk, if we add the numerous accompanying persons  & the children under sixteen, for whom the event was free, plus all the volunteers, a total of around 200 people were present at this awareness event for heart failure, we are more than satisfied!

Over and above the figures what was even more satisfying, was the atmosphere, the conviviality and the richness of the discussions that took place throughout the morning.

For a first large-scale public event it was an astounding success.
